WYLENE WILSON WINS THE 2009 MOUNTAIN VALLEY EXTREME MUSTANG MAKEOVER
On November 7th, Wylene Wilson won the Mountain Valley, Extreme Mustang Makeover in Heber City, Utah. Wylene, a horse trainer and clinician from Queen Creek, Arizona, received $3,000 as the top prize for the event.
The Mustang Heritage Foundation in partnership with the Bureau of Land Management, sponsors wild mustang competitions for horse trainers across the United States. Each trainer has nearly 100 days from horse pick up at the BLM, to break and train a wild mustang. The trainers then compete with each other demonstrating not only their horsemanship and training skills, but also the
versatility of America's horse, the Mustang.
Following the competition, each mustang was then auctioned to qualified bidders who can provide a safe and healthy home for these symbols of the American West. Through competition, the Mustang Heritage Foundation demonstrates the
versatility of the Mustang for cowhorsing, show performance and recreational trail riding to name a few.
Wylene's horse, "Gator" is a four year old mustang from the Medicine Maverick Nevada Heard. Since the Mustang is a wild mixed breed, no two are exactly alike. Gator is brown with a distinctive white blaze.
The theme of the Extreme Mustang Makeover was in harmony with Heber City's 15th annual COWBOY POETRY Gathering and Buckaroo Fair. As a result, all props used in the competition were required to reflect our Cowboy Heritage and a natural approach to horsemanship. For example, bull whips, lassos, and slickers were displayed by most of the trainers in their finals performances.
Wylene qualified for the Finals with the second highest score in the preliminaries. Wylene and Gator exhibited body control and polished step offs to win a highly competitive chase for the championship. Wylene and Gator delighted the crowd by standing in the saddle and working a cow as her finale.
Wylene wore a beautiful maroon rhinestone outfit made by Rickrageous, and matching western hat by JW Brooks Custom Hats. Her dazzling outfit was sponsored by Sharon Miller from Corpus Christi, Texas. Click here to view more photos of Wylene's winning performance.
